Georgian, German parliament officials review EU integration, security matters

Georgia’s European integration and regional security matters were discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Georgian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee Chair, and officials of the German Bundestag. 

Michael Roth, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the German legislative body, and Anton Hofreiter, the Chair of its Committee on European Affairs, reaffirmed their “firm” support for Georgia's accession to the European Union at the meeting, the Georgian Parliament said. 

The discussion focused on the EU membership candidate status for Georgia and reforms carried out by the country’s Government as part of integration efforts. 

The officials also reviewed the implementation of the steps set out by the European Commission for the membership candidate status to be granted to Georgia.

They also reviewed regional security matters, Russia's occupation of Georgian regions and the latter’s peacekeeping role in the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict.

The ongoing war in Ukraine, security of the Black Sea region and dynamics of bilateral relations between Georgia and Germany were also discussed.
