Revaz Javelidze, the Head of the Georgian Government Administration, on Monday said the 2024-2027 Communication Strategy, adopted by the Government earlier today, aimed to develop a unified vision of a “proactive, coherent and coordinated” communication with the public.
He said the Strategy was based on Vision 2030 - the national policy document approved by the Government this year - and was “fully consistent” with the country's “long-term development vision, strategic priorities, goals and objectives”.
Javelidze added combating disinformation and fake news was one of the priority directions of the Strategy.
This is an important document. One of the important topics that the European Commission recently asked us to pay special attention to is related to disinformation, which we have highlighted in this document”, he said.
The official said the “most important method” of combating disinformation was sharing “true information as much as possible”.
This is the most important goal we have. We want to fight disinformation with correct and truthful information”, he added, noting three parts of the newly adopted document.
The first chapter is a general context and a brief overview of the information environment in general. The second part talks directly about the communication vision, strategic goals and tasks [while] the third chapter is devoted directly to the components of strategy implementation monitoring and evaluation”, he said.
Javelidze added the document defined objectives of ensuring communication “relevant to national interests” and “based on values”, the second goal [...] is combating disinformation [and] the third goal is institutional perfection in the strategic communications system”.
He said an action plan for the Strategy would be created in the first quarter of 2024 and updated annually.
