Lithuanian Ambassador hopes for EU countries’ support for Georgia’s EU candidacy

Andrius Kalindra, the Lithuanian Ambassador to Georgia, on Monday said he hoped European Union member states would reach a consensus on granting the country the membership candidate status this month.
Kalindra said the upcoming decision on the status was a “very responsible” moment for the EU itself, European countries and Georgia, and added Lithuania was “actively working” with its European counterparts to reach the required “unanimous” consensus on the matter.
Everything is possible. We don't have the luxury of wasting time, so we have to take this opportunity responsibly and actively work with all parties”, he said.
The European Commission in November recommended the European Council to grant the country the EU membership candidate status. The Council is expected to make the decision on the status for Georgia on December 15.
Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Monday said the country was moving closer to the European Union by implementing reforms for integration “despite many challenges”.
Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Tuesday said the Georgian Government was “actively” working in capitals of European Union member states to secure support of partners for the European Council decision on whether to grant the country the EU membership candidate status on December 15.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday said it was “unlikely” for any European Union member state not to back the European Commission’s decision to recommend the European Council to grant the country the membership candidate status in December.
Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Monday said her participation at the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for European Union Affairs in Madrid had demonstrated the issue of Georgia was on the agenda of EU member states “even more actively” than last year.
Othmar Karas, the first Vice-President of the European Parliament, on Monday said he hoped there would be a “positive” decision on granting Georgia the European Union membership candidate status later this year.
Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Tuesday said Hungary was “firmly” supporting the country’s European integration and had voiced “important positions” around the subject.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Saturday said he hoped the European Council would make “a truly European”, merit-based decision on granting Georgia the European Union membership candidate status.
Beka Davituliani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Saturday said he expected Georgia would obtain the European Union membership candidate status next week and expressed support to Ukraine and Moldova to open accession negotiations with the bloc.
