Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday said the Government would work “successfully” to fulfil the nine priorities set out by the European Commission for granting the country the European Union membership candidate status, and added “the door is open” for groups interested in taking part in the effort.

“[T]he Parliament and the Government will work just as conscientiously and successfully as they worked with the 12 recommendations [originally set out by the Commission in 2022]”, Papuashvili said, and added the Government would work on “all matters in a detailed manner”.

We will soon initiate some of the matters outlined in this work plan - on the one hand, in the form of a legislative change, and on the other hand, the opposition, of course, can participate and help the Georgian Government in this process”, he pointed out.

“So if anyone wants to contribute constructively and help us implement the nine recommendations, the door is open to them”, the chief Georgian legislator added.

Papuashvili also noted an action plan for the fulfilment of the priorities had been agreed with the European Commission.
