Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Georgian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee Chair, on Wednesday highlighted the “very good” communication between the country’s authorities and the European Commission, and said the experience would help the country finalise the priorities set out by the European Union body for receiving the bloc’s membership candidate status.

Samkharadze noted the nine priorities were “much easier to follow” in the circumstance of the authorities having “specificity of what the European Union expects from us”.

Over the last five months, we have established very good communication with the European Commission. [W]e had a very close exchange of ideas, [and] this experience will also help us to complete these nine steps”, he said.

The lawmaker also reviewed the law on deoligarchisation, aimed to meet one of the conditions outlined by the European Commission last year, noting an action plan had been developed with “complex approaches” to meet its intended outcome.
