Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday highlighted the “immense contribution” of the Asian Development Bank and the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Programme to “numerous” projects and events implemented in the country.

In his address to the 22nd annual CAREC Ministerial Conference in the country’s capital of Tbilisi, Garibashvili emphasised the “crucial” role of the programme and the ADB in promoting regional economic development, and noted  approximately $3 billion investment had been mobilised since the country joined the programme in 2016.

The PM also extended his “warm welcome” to ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa who featured at the Conference, as well as ministers, delegations from member states and representatives of international organisations.

In 2023, Georgia had the privilege of chairing the CAREC, and as this year ends, I proudly state we have successfully fulfilled this important responsibility. I convey my sincere gratitude to all state agencies and individuals who were involved in accomplishing this significant mission”, he said.

The Government head also noted the ADB’s upcoming annual meeting, set to be hosted in Tbilisi next year, and added he was “confident” the event would offer an “outstanding platform” for discussing regional and global development matters and proposed solutions.
