Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Monday highlighted the support of the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for the country’s European integration by saying the official was a “very big supporter of the European future of our country”.

Darchiashvili commented on today’s meeting between Orbán and the Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, and said “Georgia has many supporters in the European family”.

I am sure that these persons will make their significant and valuable contribution so that Georgia receives a positive decision regarding the membership candidate status in the format of the European Council”, he said.

“I want to tell you that the Hungarian Prime Minister is a very big supporter of the European future of Georgia, our country, both himself and his Government”, the FM pointed out.

We have very good cooperation between the two countries. Our bilateral relations are developing both in bilateral and multilateral formats. [...] We have very dynamic relations with all EU member states, especially after the European Commission made a decision on a positive recommendation”, he continued.

On November 8, the European Commission issued the recommendation for the European Council to grant Georgia the status, with the latter’s decision expected in December.
