Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Thursday said Bulgaria supported the country’s European integration and believed the “mistake” of the European Commission not granting the country the European Union candidate status in 2022 “should be corrected”.
In her comments Botchorishvili said Georgia should take advantage of the prospects provided by its bilateral relations with Bulgaria - the country she said represented an “important player” in the Black Sea region - to strengthen its own “physical connections” to the EU.
Commenting on her ongoing visit to Bulgaria, Botchorishvili noted her meetings in the country discussed the European Commission’s recommendation on the European Council to grant Georgia the status next month, and “potential positions” of EU member states about the recommendation.
She also added Bulgaria supported Georgia’s EU integration and supported a “reversal” of the decision made last year when the country only received a European perspective.
