Relations between Georgia and the Czech Republic, and prospects of future cooperation were discussed on Monday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Petr Kubernát, the new Czech Ambassador to the country.
Garibashvili congratulated Kubernát on his appointment before the sides highlighted Georgia’s foreign policy priorities, with the officials emphasising Czech Republic’s “firm support” for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
The officials also discussed steps taken by the Georgian Government to fulfil the 12 recommendations outlined by the European Commission for granting the country its membership candidate status later this year.
Garibashvili emphasised the importance of granting the candidate status to Georgia, and said he hoped the Government’s efforts would be “properly reflected” in the EC's report on whether to recommend granting the status to the country.
The meeting also pointed out the “need” to deepen trade and economic ties between the two countries.
