Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday said “any action” carried out in Georgia’s Russian-occupied territories was “completely unacceptable”, in response to reports that said the Kremlin had decided to transfer ships of its Black Sea Fleet from Ukraine’s occupied Crimea peninsula to the port of the city of Ochamchire in Georgia’s occupied Abkhazia region.

In his remarks over the matter, Kobakhidze noted the development was “one of the complex legacies” left behind by the previous United National Movement Government, and a result of “adventurous steps” taken by them.

As for this act in particular, the Georgian Government [and] the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had a proper response to it. This is the official position of the Government. Any such actions carried out in our occupied territories are completely unacceptable, and the Government has already responded accordingly”, Kobakhidze said.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili early October called Russia’s reported plans to deploy a permanent naval military base in Ochamchire a “continuation of the occupation”.
