A total of 1,070 Georgian citizens have been deported from several European Union member states over the past three months for violations of mandatory terms of stay in the countries, the Georgian Interior Ministry said on Thursday.
The state body said 696 of the individuals had been deported from Germany between July-September, followed by deportations from France (136), Switzerland (48), Greece (33), Poland (30), Spain (26), Italy (21), the Netherlands (15), and Austria (13).
The Ministry said 1,074 applications had been reviewed, with 1,070 approved and four rejected as part of the EU-Georgia readmission agreement that entered into force in 2011.
The agreement stipulates terms for deportation of Georgian citizens living illegally in EU countries, as well as the readmission of citizens of third countries to Georgia.
