Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday expressed hope that the partnership between Georgia and the United States would “considerably deepen” under the leadership of the US newly appointed Ambassador to Georgia, Robin Dunnigan.

In his comments to the media, Kobakhidze noted the ruling party was “optimistic” about Dunnigan and for further deepening cooperation, adding he looked forward to “working closely” with her.

We attended the reception of the US Ambassador. We had a conversation, [and] a meeting. [...] We have a very solid basis for optimism and look forward to working closely with the new Ambassador. We have every reason to be optimistic about further deepening our cooperation, and I am sure it will happen. We will do everything to establish close cooperation with the new Ambassador, which is necessary to deepen our close partnership with the US”, Kobakhidze emphasised.

Dunnigan last week presented her credentials to the country’s Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili, and earlier this week, discussed cooperation with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
