The Special Investigation Service of Georgia on Tuesday said its investigative actions had led to 139 individuals being charged with crimes since the body’s founding in 2022.
The statistics revealed by the state body showed 62 out of the 139 individuals were law enforcement officers who faced criminal charges for ill-treatment and violence.
Furthermore, 65 individuals were charged with disclosure of confidentiality of personal information and offences against human rights and freedoms, while 12 were charged with unlawful interference with journalists’ professional activities”, the state body noted.
Founded in March 2022 with an increased mandate, the SIS’s investigations extend beyond cases of violence, torture and ill-treatment committed by public officials.
The body also investigates crimes by citizens with charges of disclosure of confidentiality of personal information, unlawful interference with journalists’ professional activities and crimes against human rights and freedoms.
