Georgia’s progress in the implementation of the priorities outlined by the European Union for granting the country its membership candidate status was discussed on Tuesday by Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Gert Jan Koopman, the Head of the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission.
In a phone conversation, the officials “positively” evaluated the “intensive” consultations between the Georgian authorities and the Commission and highlighted the high-level meetings held in Tbilisi and Brussels over the last two months.
The parties agreed to continue active communication to ensure that Georgia's progress be reflected in the Commission’s upcoming report “as much as possible”, the Foreign Ministry said.
