Josep Borrell, the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs, on Thursday said he had “optimistic” expectations regarding the European Commission’s upcoming decision on Georgia’s EU membership candidate status.
In his comments before the opening event of the plenary session of the third European Political Community Summit in Granada, Borrel noted his recent visit to Georgia in September “was a strong push” in the European integration process.

He stressed he could not make comments about a preliminary conclusion and noted “we have to wait for the conclusion of the European Commission”.
The plenary session of the Summit in Granada opened earlier today and was attended by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. The Head of the Government is also to participate in the thematic discussions in the round table format and hold high-level bilateral meetings.
