The International Organisation for Migration, with the financial support of the European Union, on Friday donated modern special equipment - passport readers - to the Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
The equipment handover event was held at Tbilisi International Airport, which was attended by Deputy Interior Minister Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, the Head of the IOM Georgian mission Sanja Celebic Lukovac and the representative of the EU delegation in Georgia, Evija Kotan.

The parties discussed the progress achieved within the framework of the existing cooperation and outlined the prospects for future collaboration, the Interior Ministry said.
The newest technical equipment will be placed at the border crossing points across Georgia, which will contribute to increasing the effectiveness of border control and improving the procedure for document verification. This will “significantly strengthen” the capabilities of the Patrol Police Department in combating illegal migration.
