Heads of Georgian, Austrian Governments to meet in Tbilisi

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer will start an official visit to Georgia on Monday, the Georgian Government Administration said.

The most recent meeting of the two leaders took place in Vienna in July, with Nehammer saying it was “very important” to support Georgia on its Western integration both in what the country had already accomplished and in measures still ahead for the process.
Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer on Friday said that his country was “clearly committed” to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia, and pointed out the “frozen conflicts” in the Russian-occupied regions of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) and Abkhazia must “not be forgotten”.
Strengthening cooperation between the parliaments of Austria and Georgia and deepening relations between the two countries were discussed on Friday between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Wolfgang Sobotka, the President of the National Council of Austria.
Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg on Friday said his country was “ready to accompany” Georgia on its European integration path and assist the country in reforms related to attaining the European Union membership candidate status.

Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Sunday said the Georgian Government was pursuing a “pragmatic policy” designed to “avoid escalation and promote peace” in the wider region, in comments after accepting the Sabino Arana Prize in Spain for the development of Georgian-Basque ties and promotion of democracy and human rights.
Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Monday said the visit of the Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer to the country would focus on “very important” discussions on how to strengthen and deepen the existing relations between the two countries.
