Cooperation in different formats and Georgia’s progress on its EU integration path were discussed on Thursday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and his Maltese counterpart Robert Abela on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Garibashvili highlighted the importance of “political and practical” support provided by Malta for the country’s accession process to the bloc, the Government Administration said.

The Georgian official noted that most of the EU conditions for granting Georgia its membership candidate status had been fulfilled, with the process continuing, and further pointed out that “Georgia deserves the status of a candidate country”.
The officials planned specific steps to “deepen” cooperation in trade and economy and expressed their readiness to “fully” utilise the existing potential in this direction.
