Tbilisi, Akhaltsikhe to host folklore festival with Georgian, European ensembles

Georgian ensembles will be joined by visiting bands from Europe in the International Folklore Festival ‘Sakartvelo’ in a four-day celebration of folk performing arts in Tbilisi and the southern municipality of Akhaltsikhe next week.
Georgia’s Culture Ministry on Monday said the festival would launch at the open-air location of Akhaltsikhe Castle with three days of shows and introduction of local folklore, architecture and cuisine.
Organised by the Anzor Erkomaishvili State Folklore Centre and with the support of the Ministry, the festival will feature ensembles from Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Finland.

Running for its fourth edition, the Festival is set to run between September 18-22.
The first Georgian festival in the historical Leuville estate near Paris, dedicated to Georgian art and culture, is coming to an end on Sunday, with Georgian artists, folklore and choreographic ensembles and theatre actors performing for Georgian emigrants and foreign guests, the Culture Ministry said.
Batumi Days, an event introducing dance, folklore, cuisine and other aspects of the Georgian culture in celebration of the country’s Independence Day on Friday are being hosted in Israel, the Tourism Department of Georgia’s western region of Adjara said on Tuesday.
The tradition of Georgian religious hymns and ecclesiastic music has been designated as intangible cultural heritage of the nation, recognising the rich history and the living legacy of the canticles and chants preserved and performed across the country.

Georgia’s award-winning folk ensemble Rustavi will officially open a new festival of singing in the Welsh capital Cardiff tomorrow, which will be followed by 11 days of performances by international bands and musicians.
