Georgia’s European integration and cooperation between the country and the European Union in defence and security were discussed on Friday in a meeting between the Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Josep Borrell, the visiting European Union High Representative.
Papuashvili emphasised the importance of the official’s visit and noted Georgia's contribution to “European history and culture”.

The meeting highlighted the progress of Georgia in the implementation of 12 conditions outlined by the European Council for granting the country the EU membership candidate status later this year, and highlighted the “fruitful” cooperation between the institutions of the bloc and the country.
Borrell told the Parliament official the door of the EU was “open”, with “all institutions” of the bloc “ready to support” Georgia.

The head of the legislative body pointed out Georgia's “successful fulfilment” of its obligations under the 2014-signed Association Agreement with the Union, as well as cooperation in defence and security, and noted the country was a “reliable partner” of the EU.
