Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Sunday said the Government would “in the near future” present a plan on “fully” completing its work on meeting the conditions for receiving the European Union membership candidate status in December.
In his remarks over the matter, Kobakhidze said last week’s meetings with the European Union High Representative Josep Borrell in Tbilisi focused on “specific matters” concerning the implementation of the bloc’s conditions.
It was an important visit, [there were] important meetings. Among them, specific matters related to the implementation of [the 12 points set out by the European Commission] were discussed in detail at the meetings, and specific proposals were presented by the European partners. We will respond accordingly. In particular, we will present a plan on how to continue the implementation of the 12 points”, Kobakhidze said.
Kobakhidze pledged the country would be “completely” ready to ensure the European Commission presented a “positive conclusion” in its interim report on the progress in late October, followed by the granting of the candidate status at the end of the year.
