Vedant Patel, the Deputy Spokesperson of the United States Department of State, on Tuesday urged the Georgian Government and “all domestic stakeholders” to “come together now” and work towards receiving the European Union membership candidate status for the country.
In his remarks at a press briefing, Patel noted Georgia’s citizens had been “clear” that they see their future with Europe and the EU.
Georgia has a clear roadmap to achieve candidate status. And we urge the Georgian Government and all stakeholders to come together now and work towards that objective, especially to implement the reforms required to achieve EU candidate status”, Patel said.
The American official also stressed the need for a “unified Georgia” had “never been more urgent”.
