Heavy rainfall, hail and strong wind late on Saturday affected municipalities in the eastern Georgian regions, causing damage to agricultural beds, vineyards, buildings and floods in residential homes.
The strong winds uprooted the trees and toppled power poles in several villages of Akhmeta, Telavi and Gurjaani municipalities in Georgia's eastern Kakheti region.
Hail damaged cars and roofs of houses, the Public Broadcaster said, citing residents of the villages as saying they have been “left without a harvest”.
Giorgi Aladashvili, the Government representative in eastern Kakheti region, said a special commission would record the damages, and noted he was “in communication” with the harvest coordination centre to ensure that damaged grape yield would be delivered to the wineries “in time”.
The National Environment Agency on Saturday said the expected precipitation in Georgia in coming days might cause a “significant increase” in water levels.
A part of a slope near the road connecting the Marshal Gelovani Avenue and Mukhran Matchavariani Street in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi collapsed on Wednesday following heavy overnight rainfall and strong winds.
Tbilisi City Hall said heavy rainfall and strong wind late on Tuesday affected Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, causing damage to electricity cables and flooding streets and underpasses.
Heavy rainfall, hail and strong wind between Monday and Wednesday affected municipalities in the central and eastern Georgian regions, causing damage to buildings and floods in residential homes.
The National Wine Agency on Sunday said the state enterprise Harvest Management Company was ready to receive and process grapes damaged by the climate conditions, following heavy rainfall, hail and strong wind late on Saturday, affecting several villages in eastern winemaking Kakheti region.
