The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine on Wednesday expressed its gratitude to Georgia for receiving Ukrainian refugees and assisting them, confirming there was “no danger” to them in Georgia, at the meeting between the Ambassador of Georgia to Ukraine Giorgi Zakarashvili and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis.

The officials discussed the current issues of bilateral relations between the countries, with the Ukrainian side appreciating Georgia’s political support and “important” humanitarian aid during the ongoing war in Ukraine. In its turn, the Georgian side reaffirmed its support and solidarity with Ukraine, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.

The meeting followed the Ukrainian Charge D'affaires in Georgia Andrii Kasianov’s interview for European Pravda on Tuesday, saying his office was considering the possibility of evacuation of its citizens, as a potential resumption of direct flights between Georgia and Russia could cause a “mass influx” of Russian nationals to Georgia and constitute “risks to the lives and safety” of Ukrainian people [who fled the war] residing in Georgia.

Kasianov was summoned to Georgia's foreign office for explanations over his recent interview earlier today. The diplomat left the body without any comments after the meeting, while in his remarks during the day, the Ukrainian official urged local media to read the “full and original versions” of his interviews to “prevent misinterpretations”.
