Georgian Wings on Tuesday launched direct flights between Tbilisi International Airport in the Georgian capital and the Black Sea city of Batumi, marking the airline’s first demonstration flight and project presentation.

In her comments, Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Deputy Economy Minister, said the event had “demonstrated that a local airline is prepared to regularly operate services [between the two cities] without additional assistance and financial backing from the state”.

She also said the planned 12 weekly flights between the two locations showed increased demand, adding the services would also serve tourist flows.
