Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday said the party’s scheduled “important” meeting with domestic non-governmental organisations later in the day would discuss “all topics” related to the country’s European Union integration.
In his press comments, the official said the discussion would also involve the EU Ambassador and representatives of the diplomatic corps, and would present an “in-depth” analysis of the Government's work to meet the recommendations outlined by the bloc last year for granting Georgia its membership candidate status.
He noted members of the ruling party would present reports on the implementation of each condition, followed by a discussion.
The ruling party and the Government did their utmost, in practical sense, to ensure the fulfilment of the conditions by late June”, Kobakhidze said.
Georgia officially applied for EU membership on March 3, 2022, shortly after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and was granted a European perspective of the year by the European Council, along with a reform agenda for obtaining the bloc’s candidate status.
The European Council has been scheduled to decide on Georgia’s candidate status in December, following a report by the European Commission in October on the implementation of the conditions.
