Lawrence Meredith, the Director for the European Union's Eastern Neighbourhood and Institution Building, on Thursday urged his Twitter followers to spend the summer season in Georgia.
“If you're looking for a unique destination, consider exploring the beautiful country of Georgia”, Meredith said in his social media post, encouraging travellers to start the journey from the country's “vibrant” capital Tbilisi, which he said offered a “wealth of surprises”.

For nature lovers, Meredith recommended the country’s mountainous north-western region of Svaneti, telling them about the locality “[n]estled in the heart of the Caucasus” with its sites listed among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

He also suggested visiting the Uplistsikhe cave town in central Georgia to explore the country’s “rich history”, and making sure not to miss the city of Batumi - which he called a “gem of Black Sea coast” - with its “stunning botanical garden, vibrant nightlife, and modern architecture”.
