Georgian PM: Gov’t must lead country to peace, maintain its rapid development

The Georgian Government must lead the country to peace and its main task is to maintain the rapid development in Georgia, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili told the media on Saturday.

Garibashvili highlighted that Georgia “is getting richer, stronger and developing”, citing the ten-time increase in deposits, amounting to over 26-27 billion in Georgian Lari (about $10bln) and 25 million in US Dollars compared to the 2012 number, which totalled about 2.5 billion in Dollars and 2.6 in Lari.

He noted that the country’s economy would grow by ₾30 billion (about $11bln) by the end of 2023, emphasising “it is a very big progress and it needs to be maintained and developed”.

The reserves of the country, the reserves of the National Bank amount to more than $5 billion”, Garibashvili pointed out and compared the new figures to the previous ones, which totalled $2.8.

He also highlighted that the poverty rate in the country was at a “historic low” of 15.6 percent, compared to figures in 2012 when the poverty level was “almost more than 30 percent”. “The unemployment rate is approximately 17 percent and this is also a historical minimum. More than 200 thousand new jobs were created. Recently, [...] we have had very strong economic growth", he added.
