The resolution supporting the territorial integrity of Georgia was unanimously adopted on Saturday at the closing Plenary Session of the European Region of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie, hosted in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi.

Before that, the resolution, prepared by the Georgian delegation to the Assembly, was discussed at the meeting of the Political Affairs Committee, where, at the initiative of the Quebec delegation, a note was added to the resolution, condemning sexual violence against women and girls in the conflict.

Eliso Bolkvadze, the Georgian MP, who presented the document to the representatives of the 42 delegations of the Assembly, called the adoption of the resolution “historic”, as the APF discussed and supported the issue of Georgia for the first time.

The resolution supports international diplomatic efforts aimed at the de-occupation of Georgia and the peaceful settlement of conflicts. The fair resolution of conflicts should become the basis for restoring the rights and dignity of hundreds of thousands of people and their return to their homes”, she added.

David Songulashvili, the Georgian MP and the Head of the country's Parliamentary delegation in the Assembly, said the support of the 42 represented countries in the plenary session was “very important”, noting the adoption of the resolution was a “great achievement” for Georgia.
