Russian-controlled occupation forces have illegally arrested a Georgian citizen in the occupied territory adjacent to the village of Disevi in central Georgia’s Gori municipality, the State Security Service confirmed on Wednesday.
The body said the incident happened in the locality near the occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region, and added it had responded by activating the hotline operated for information exchange on developments along the occupation line.
It also said it had informed the European Union Monitoring mission and Co-Chairs of the Geneva International Discussions - a platform for talks between Georgian Government and de facto authorities in the occupied regions - about the incident.
The Service added “all existing mechanisms” had been activated to ensure the release of the illegally detained citizen “as soon as possible”.
The situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia was discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and the Co-Chairs of the Geneva International Discussions, UN Representative Cihan Sultanoğlu, EU Special Representative Toivo Klaar and Siegfried Woeber, the senior political officer from the OSCE Conflict Prevention Center.
