The second annual Tbilisi Women's International Conference is taking place in Georgia’s capital, with women leaders from around the world discussing conflicts, peace and security at the initiative of Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili.
The conference offers nine successive discussion panels, encompassing the major challenges for women.
In her opening speech, the Georgian President thanked the Georgian and foreign participants of the conference for their attendance and noted the event was devoted to peace, security, conflicts and everything that women can do to overcome today’s tensions - wars around the world”.
Women are directly affected by war. I would like to dedicate this second edition [of the conference] to Ukrainian women, who are today again, after more than a year and a half, under [Russian] bombs in Ukraine.”, Zourabichvili noted, adding next year’s conference would discuss building peace in the world with new initiatives.
Marija Pejčinović Burić, the Council of Europe’s Secretary General, who is on an official visit to Georgia, also addressed the conference and stressed the importance of women’s involvement in “building world peace”.
She also noted that the CoE “sees how Georgian citizens are fighting for their European path” and emphasised that the Council was “eager” to be a partner with Georgia in “building a better, peaceful world, where the rights of citizens and different groups, as well as diversity, are protected”.
