The role of support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Georgia’s European integration was discussed on Thursday in a meeting between the Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili and the members of the board of directors of the Bank.
The meeting focused on Georgia's European integration path and challenges in the region, as well as the role of the EBRD in strengthening the country’s function in connectivity between Europe and Asia, the Presidential Administration said.
Zourabichvili “once again” noted the country’s accession to the European Union was the “choice of the absolute majority” of the Georgian citizens, with “no alternative to this European choice for the public”.
Kakha Kaladze, the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday said he hoped the European Union would make a “fair decision this time around” on whether to grant its membership candidate status to Georgia.
The French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna on Thursday said her country’s Government was “clearly stating” that “Georgia's future is European”, in remarks ahead of a meeting of European Union member states’ foreign ministers in Stockholm.
Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chair of the Rules and Procedural Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, on Thursday said the ruling team had “positive” expectations regarding the oral report by the European Commission on the implementation of the European Union conditions for granting the country the membership candidate status.
