Kakha Kaladze, the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday said he hoped the European Union would make a “fair decision this time around” on whether to grant its membership candidate status to Georgia.
“I want to believe that at this stage, [and] this time around, a fair decision will be made, because Georgia is doing everything on this difficult path of European integration”, the official said.
[I]f we [as a country] have achieved any success [on European integration], it is all related to the period after 2012 [when the Georgian Dream party came into power] - all successful steps are related to this period”, Kaladze added.
“We also heard statements in Europe regarding the fact that Georgia really deserved the [membership candidate] status, and the decision that had been made was unfair”, he noted in reference to the European Council’s decision on only granting a European perspective to the country last year.
The party official added he wanted to “believe that the decision in December will be fair, and the Georgian people, [and] our state, will not be left mistreated” in the decision on the status.
