Today Georgia is a sovereign state and no one can “summon” the country’s Prime Minister anywhere, unlike the previous Government and the former President Mikheil Saakashvili, who had been “summoned [several times in 2008] and instructed to do something”, Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Saturday.

Kobakhidze was responding to the statements by opposition-minded TV channels and radical opposition, which alleged that Garibashvili “was summoned to Germany” and would have “difficult conversations” with the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The ruling party head stressed these statements exposed the attitude of the United National Movement opposition party towards “their own country”.

Speaking about the opposition, Kobakhidze also said all the parties were fighting for second place in the upcoming 2024 Parliamentary elections, knowing “very well” that they would not have “any chance” with Georgian Dream.
