The Georgian judo team won nine medals, including three gold, two silver and four bronze, at the European Judo Championships Veterans, held from June 8 to June 10 in Slovenia, the Georgian Judo Federation said.
Aleksi Davitashvili, a record nine-time holder of Georgia’s top wrestler title, claimed a gold medal in the +100 kg of the M4 category of the tournament, defeating Finnish Juha-Matti Salmela. Giorgi Modebadze defeated Italy’s Francesco Iannone in the final of the -100 kg of the M3 category, becoming the champion of the tournament, while Gigla Tsipiani won gold in the -73 kg of the M8.
Silver medals were claimed by Badri Basoshvili and Shalva Bekauri, in the -60 kg of the M4 and +100 kg of the M5 categories. David Udzilauri, Deviko Gobejishvili, Irakli Akhrakhadze and Zaza Makhatadze won bronze medals in their respective weight categories.
