Russian-controlled occupation forces have illegally arrested a Georgian citizen near the country’s occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region, the Georgian State Security Service said on Wednesday.
The body said the incident took place adjacent to the village of Akhmaji in central Georgia’s Akhalgori municipality, which is under the control of the de facto authorities.
It added it had responded to the latest incident by activating the hotline operated by the European Union Monitoring Mission for information exchange on developments along the occupation line.
The Co-Chairs of the Geneva International Discussions - a platform for talks between the Georgian Government and de facto authorities in the occupied regions - were also informed about the incident.
“All existing mechanisms have been activated to ensure the release of illegally detained citizens in the shortest possible time”, the body added.
