The security situation near the Russian occupation line and in the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia, and release of Georgian citizens illegally detained by de facto authorities in the territories were discussed on Monday in a meeting between Grigol Liluashvili, the Head of the Georgian State Security Service and Dimitrios Karabalis, the Head of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia.
The officials reviewed meetings of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism, a platform facilitating talks between the Georgian Government and de facto authorities.
They also highlighted the need to “effectively use and strengthen” the existing negotiation formats, the State Security Service said.
The meeting also noted the contribution of the European Union Monitoring Mission to ensuring security in the South Caucasus region, and the cooperation between the Service and the EUMM.
