Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday congratulated “all journalists who serve their profession conscientiously and faithfully” on the World Press Freedom Day.

In his message over the date, Garibashvili said dissemination of “accurate and balanced” information was the responsibility of journalists that “they have taken before their people and country, and unwavering fulfilment of which will be greatly appreciated by the public”.

The work based on these principles and values is known in the world as highly professional and free journalism, because the observance of this standard creates a solid foundation for democratic development”, the Government head added.

“A free press is a sign of the quality of democracy of a country, as well as its striving towards democracy. The media environment in our country has changed over the years, however, today we have a free, independent and pluralistic media space”, he concluded.
