Bilateral relations and cooperation between Georgian and Danish legislative bodies were discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between chairs of committees of the Georgian Parliament and the Speaker of the Danish Parliament Søren Gade.

Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Georgian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee Chair and Eliso Bolkvadze, the Chair of the Culture Committee, reviewed the “active dynamics” of links between the lawmaking institutions with Gade and confirmed their commitment to “further intensifying” the relations, the Parliament’s press service said.

The Georgian MPs also highlighted the country’s “unwavering will” to become a member of the European Union, and informed their Danish counterpart about respective reforms and progress.

The meeting also focused on the ongoing Russian aggression in Ukraine and its consequences on Georgia and global security.

The “grave” humanitarian situation in the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia and threats from the country were also noted.

It was a very positive meeting. We deliberated on parliamentary relations, as well as various aspects of cooperation, including in economy, culture, education and tourism”, Samkharadze noted.

“The Speaker of the Danish Parliament expressed his support for the EU integration of Georgia and underlined the paramount value of granting the [membership] candidate status to Georgia at the end of 2023 to trigger the country’s preparations for EU membership”, he added.
