Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Sunday said steps taken by the Georgian Government over the past year had been “not only correct, but also had no alternative” and allowed it to “maintain peace and tranquillity” in the country.
In his remarks on developments in the domestic political scene throughout 2022, Kobakhidze said the team had ultimately managed to “protect national interests despite numerous attempts to cause chaos and disturb peace” from the opposition.
I would say that the [ruling] team met the challenge. I think that absolutely all the steps taken by us were not only correct, but also had no alternative. This allowed us to maintain peace and tranquillity in our country. Although there were many attempts to cause chaos [and] disturb peace, in the end we managed to protect the national interests of our country to the end”, the GD official said.
Kobakhidze also stressed “everything” had been done by authorities to ensure economic development “despite the constant political struggles”, with the efforts resulting in double-digit economic growth over the past two years.
