Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Romeo Mikautadze on Thursday highlighted the responsibility of the public to use energy resources “more wisely” at a school event for raising awareness of energy-saving practices.

The Ministry said representatives from 10 schools in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi attended the event for a campaign being implemented by the Ministry with the support from the European Union, the German state development bank KfW and GOPA Intec, a German-based independent energy consulting company.

Energy efficiency not only helps conserve energy, but also plays a crucial role in reducing CO2 emissions and our impact on the environment”, Mikautadze said in comments at the event.

The campaign aims to help schools introduce European energy-saving practices and encourage energy efficiency, while also helping to raise awareness among students and teachers on the subjects.

The Ministry said the 10 schools would be involved in the campaign over the next two months and participate in activities for improving their energy efficiency as part of a contest.

A commission involving various agencies will select three winners and award them with energy-efficient prizes in the amount of €3,000 in late June.
