Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday discussed his country’s European integration prospects and the Black Sea submarine cable international project with Péter Szijjártó, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.
The Tbilisi meeting highlighted the importance of the international project, initiated by Georgia, which involves construction of a high-voltage underwater transmission grid to connect the power transmission lines and systems of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Hungary and Romania to allow export of green energy to Europe.
Both officials stressed the priority of green energy projects and the “strategic importance” of the specific initiative that was officially signed last year, the Government press office said.
The head of the Georgian Government thanked the visiting official for his country’s “unwavering support” for Georgia’s European aspirations and noted the European Commission's “positive report” on Georgia’s alignment with the European Union framework, published in February, “clearly reflected” his country’s progress on its path to the bloc.
The discussion also reviewed cooperation between the two states in “various sectors” and the growing trade between them, the Government Administration noted.
