About 1.2 million Georgian resident visitors made 1.36 million visits within the country per month in 2022, the latest domestic tourism survey published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia showed on Thursday.
The Office said the number of visitors aged 15 and above had decreased by 3.3 percent year-on-year.
Figures also showed last year’s monthly average number of tourist visits by Georgian residents at 641,000, or 3.3 percent less than the figure in 2021.
The majority of the visits came on the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi, with an average of 317,000 visits per month, and the western Imereti region, where 230,900 monthly visits were recorded.

The main purpose of a majority of visits - 50.8 percent - was visiting friends or relatives, Geostat said.

The monthly average expenditure during 2022 visits equalled ₾248.3 million ($96mln), marking a 9.8 percent increase year-on-year. In average expenditures per visit, the number increased by 13.9 percent, to ₾182.4 ($70.57).
