Former prison employee sentenced to 3 years and 9 months for inhumane treatment of prisoners

Tbilisi City Court sentenced a former employee of Gldani No.8 prison, identified only as G.A., to three years and nine months in prison for inhumane treatment of prisoners in 2010-2012.

G.A. verbally and physically abused prisoners under his supervision to force their compliance.

Prisoners were illegally restricted from walking, sleeping and rest. They did not have access to medical services.

The Prosecutor’s Office stated in April 2021 that, in total, 80 prison employees have been charged with inhumane treatment of inmates since 2012.
