Georgia stands with the Ukrainian people and has taken a “firm stance” “wherever” political support has been needed, the ruling Georgian Dream party head Irakli Kobakhidze said on Thursday in an interview with Imedi TV.

Kobakhidze told the programme Georgia’s support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity amid the ongoing Russian invasion was “unwavering”.

We stand with the friendly Ukrainian people and wherever a political support has been needed, we have taken a firm political stance everywhere. Georgians and Ukrainians enjoy a centuries-old friendship, and it is the most valuable thing,” the GD official said.

On Thursday, a United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly passed a resolution calling for protection of civilians amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, co-sponsored by 90 states including Georgia.

On March 2, Georgia voted on a UN General Assembly resolution to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, joining 140 other countries in the vote.
