Georgia’s State Security Head, NATO Assistant Sec Gen discuss threats, challenges in Black Sea region

The ongoing war in Ukraine and the current threats and challenges in the Black Sea region were in the focus of a meeting between Grigol Liluashvili, the Head of the State Security Service (SSS) of Georgia, and David Cattler, the NATO Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security, on Wednesday.

The two officials discussed cooperation between the SSS and NATO, in addition to reviewing the current situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).

In his comments on the Georgia-NATO relationship, Cattler called Georgia “one of the closest partners” of NATO, adding “our [Georgia and NATO] work together protects our people and [the] partnership has never been more important.”

Liluashvili and Cattler also discussed the need to continue the long-standing partnership and strategic relations between the alliance and the country in the meeting.
