Georgia has never considered and will not consider construction of a road connecting Georgia with Russia’s Chechnya republic, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure said in response to media reports on Thursday.
The Ministry made the comment following reports on a Russian Security Council discussion of a road project connecting Georgia to the federal subject of Russia.
The issue of road construction “has never been on the agenda” of the Georgian side, the Ministry said in its statement on Thursday, calling information about such an initiative “false”.
In its response, the Ministry also asked Georgian media outlets to provide information “verified” by the Georgian side, in order to “avoid misleading the population”.
The State Security Service of Georgia has responded to rumours about “massive and uncontrolled” influx of foreign nationals - Russian and Belarusian citizens in particular - into Georgia over the recent days by rejecting the speculation and announcing state security is “under full control”.
Despite challenges and provocations, the Government will maintain “peace, security and stability” for our citizens and for the country, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili told Monday’s Government meeting.
In about 10 years construction of all highways will be completed in Georgia, households across the country will have unfettered access to water supply, all municipal landfills will be replaced by modern regional centers, regions will be socially and economically developed, municipalities will be strengthened and their capacities will increase, says Georgian Infrastructure Minister Irakli Karseladze at the presentation of the 10-year development plan today.
