Georgia reports 5,596 new cases of coronavirus, weekly positivity rate stands at 9.63%

Georgia has reported 5,596 new cases of coronavirus, 2,946 recoveries and 47 deaths in the past 24 hours. The weekly positivity rate for tested individuals stands at 9.63%.
A total of 58,109 tests were conducted around the country in the past 24 hours. 34,115 of the 58,109 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 23,994 were PCR tests.
3,180 of 5,596 cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Tbilisi, while the remaining cases were recorded in:
- Adjara – 638 cases
- Imereti – 563 cases
- Kvemo Kartli – 173 cases
- Shida Kartli – 270 cases
- Guria – 135 cases
- Samegrelo – Zemo Svaneti – 219 cases
- Kakheti – 184 cases
- Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 102 cases
- Samtskhe-Javakheti – 99 cases
- Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti – 33 cases

Overall 2,565,599 individuals have received at least one dose of any vaccine in the country so far, while 1,174,297 have been fully vaccinated.
Head of Georgia's National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze stated earlier today that the new Omicron variant of coronavirus accounts for 60% of total Covid-19 cases confirmed today in Tbilisi, while in the regions of Georgia the rate stands at 30%.
The Operational Staff of the Interagency Coordination Council has called on those vacationing at mountain resorts to follow COVID-19 regulations as far as possible, in that a somewhat high rate of infections has been recorded there recently.
Head of the National Centre of Disease Control (NCDC) of Georgia Amiran Gamkrelidze says that circulation of the Omicron coronavirus variant is increasing in the country following the confirmation of 144 Omicron variant cases.
Georgian Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili, appointed to the post on December 27, has stated earlier today that the Georgian healthcare system is ‘fully mobilised and ready to face any challenges,’ if Omicron variant cases increase significantly.
Georgia has reported 5,326 new Covid-19 cases, 3,044 recoveries, and 48 deaths in the past 24 hours. The positivity rate for the past 14 days has increased to 8.86%. Overall 42,439 remain infected with coronavirus in Georgia.
