Georgia belongs to the European family and the Government is ready to implement the reforms that will eventually end with European Union membership, Archil Talakvadze, the Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, said on Friday.
The ruling Georgian Dream party leader stressed Georgia was ready, together with the EU, to implement the reforms as soon as possible, which would “eventually lead to the country's accession to the European Union.”
Yesterday it was unanimously decided by the leaders of EU countries that the European Council supported the applications for membership of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova. These applications were submitted to the European Commission and asked to present its position, which means that we, all three states, made the right decisions, Archil Talakvadze said.
On Friday, the European Council invited the Commission to submit its opinions on the applications of the Republic of Moldova and Georgia.
On Monday, ambassadors of EU member states agreed to invite the EU Commission to present the opinion on candidate status applications by Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova.
Georgia officially applied for membership on March 3, with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili signing the country’s membership application.
Clement Beaune, the French European Affairs Minister, said on Thursday that Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova would “probably” join the European Union “in a few years.”
Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova are "belong to the European family" and "share our European values", David Mcallister, a Member of the European Parliament, told the Georgian Public Broadcaster on Wednesday.
