Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the former NATO Secretary-General, has personally invited Ana Dolidze, the leader of the Georgian political party For People, to participate in the Copenhagen Democracy Summit between June 9-10, the party has said.

In his invitation, the former NATO official wrote there was an “urgent need” to bring together political, business and media leaders, democracy activists and advocates to come up with new ideas to “stop authoritarianism and advance democracy”, on the backdrop of hostilities in Ukraine.

Putin's “full-scale invasion of the country shows why the world's democracies need to move closer together, Rasmussen stressed, adding “pushing back the authoritarian wave” was his ambition when  the Copenhagen Democracy Summit series opened  five years ago.

The Copenhagen Democracy Summit provides a high-level strategic forum focused on the “cause of democracy”. Rasmussen inaugurated the Summit series in 2018 together with the then-former United States Vice-President Joe Biden.
